Brief Description
This hands-on workshop introduces the EASy Protocol, a focused subcostal point-of-care ultrasound approach designed to support rapid decision-making during perioperative emergencies. Participants will learn how to use POCUS for pre-induction risk assessment, hemodynamic phenotyping in shock, ultrasound-supported resuscitation, and cardiac arrest management. Through lectures, live demonstrations, case-based pattern recognition, and simulation, learners will practice integrating ultrasound findings into real-time clinical decisions.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Perform a focused EASy POCUS assessment using subcostal cardiac and IVC views to rapidly evaluate
perioperative patients before induction, during shock, and during resuscitation. - Recognize key hemodynamic phenotypes, including hypovolemia, ventricular dysfunction, right
ventricular strain, obstructive physiology, and distributive shock using the EASy framework. - Apply ultrasound findings to clinical management during perioperative emergencies,
includingpre-induction optimization, physiologically difficult airway management, sepsis resuscitation,
and cardiac arrest.
Workshop Format & Resources
- 4 rotating hands-on stations
- 6 trainees per station
- 4 live models
- 4 ultrasound machines
- 4 cardiac phased-array probes
- 1 High-fidelity SimMan simulation station (separate room in the afternoon session)
- Laminated EASy phenotypes cards
